Basil Flower Butter
This flavored butter is easy to make and is great on biscuits and toast.
It is also an easy way to add basil flavor to any recipe, and provides a use for
a part of the plant that normally goes to waste.
1 stick butter, softened
1/4 to 1/3 c basil flowerlets
Put butter in a small mixing bowl and soften by allowing to stand at room temperature for about half
an hour.
Trim flower stalks from basil plants and clean by rinsing under cold running water. Shake water off, and
pat dry using paper towels. Strip flowerlets from stem and allow flowerlets to dry by spreading out in a
thin layer on a dry paper towel.
When butter is soft and basil flowers are dry, add flowers to butter and stir well to incorporate and mix
thoroughly. Spoon butter out onto waxed paper, forming a 1-inch-diameter roll. Wrap by rolling the butter
up in the waxed paper, and continue rolling to even out the shape. Refrigerate.
